Jamie Sero
CYC professional
Introduction
To whomever is reading this my name is Jamie Sero and I am a upcoming CYC professional. At the moment I am 18 years old and have started my first semester of the child youth care program at Mohawk College. I am hoping to graduate from Mohawk College in 2021 with my advanced C.Y.C diploma and I hope to go back to school to get a psychology degree. My main goal and focus is to help children ages 3 - 12 with challenging needs so they can strive to their ultimate potential. My secondary goal is to bring youth together to counsel and to bring youth to their own settlement in their own harmonious ways.

About me
I have always had a passion for helping anyone and everyone. I have used that skill with infants and youth .Since I was a young girl,I found myself helping younger children with small problems. It has made me absolutely grateful for what I have in my life. I find that my knack as a C.Y.C is to help younger kids. I find that younger children use me as a safe space (For example a child will come up to me for advice, to talk or even just to play with someone) I also believe i developed this knack due to helping out my sister who also has some problems of her own

Work Philosophy

Using this personal photo of me i can talk about how i have improved myself over the past couple years, since i was 8 years old i dreamed of being a pitcher for my softball team i worked for years on it until i was 15 and then i became a pitcher, this reflects on my own personal self domain due to my perseverance, this will help me in the CYC field due to working my hardest to receive the best result
https://buggyandbuddy.com/flower-crafts-roundup/
Due to it becoming spring time, I personally found some flower crafts online to do with the kids in my personal placement. I altered the flower cards craft, instead of the card i got them to just do one sheet of paper and make a massive flower out of parts of a separate sheet, they pasted the flower they created onto the original paper, from there they designed both the flower and the paper around it. I helped these kids with there communication skills as well as my own.
While studying at Mohawk College for C.Y.C I discovered that I had a personal preference for psychology, I can use psychology to my advantage especially with this program. A good example of this is that lots of problems with children start at a young age, I want to be able to either solve or help children solve their own problems. With Psychology, I can use this skill to discover if the clients problem is something internally or externally . Something I would like to improve on for my understanding of sociology. I would personally like to improve on sociology so I can understand that certain theories and theoretical terms are used in specific social settings. An example of this idea is to think along the lines of: What I can do when a child is in a specific social situation? How I can help the child benefit from said theory? When using both psychology and sociology together I can benefit greatly with figuring out problems and helping the client figure out strategies to cope with their problems.
My ideal theoretical orientation is to become confident in studies such as, drug abuse, trauma in children, phycological development in children. Also becoming confident in psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, Autism, Schizophrenia, Alcohol fetal syndrome etc. I would like to study all of the following and to understand the cognitive development of the child. This is so i can figure out what practice would be most beneficial to the child. I believe the practice I would like to personally use is individual counselling and therapeutic playing.. The individual counselling portion I would like to use for youth and older children (Between ages 10-12) is to destress the client over what has been troubling them and how we can solve an issue. This will give me the opportunity to not only discuss but to understand the client on a more personal level. I would use therapeutic play with a younger child so the client can express feelings better and so the client can become more comfortable around myself being the C.Y.C.

"Due to your exceptional service to Queen Victoria Elementary School providing food products, enough for three years and their families, please accept 5 Career Development Points as our way of saying thank you for your efforts and caring.
Queen Victoria has enough donations that they are making Breakfast Baskets to give out for Christmas for families of the school who they think would benefit from a food basket. As well, the money that was donated is being used for Queen Victoria Christmas dinner (lunch) for all the children in the whole school. The Breakfast Club has enough supplies for the entire school year. A job well done, first years."
